Education is Not Only Lifelong, It Crosses Seasons, Too
Yes, we know it's the end of July, just before the "dog days" of August rise like the morning sun into the latter half of the summer. Still, with back-to-school supplies and book sales already up and running, it's not too early to begin planning and preparing to meet your fall education and licensing needs. IIABNY, which is announcing a complete schedule of online presentations and continuing education courses that begin before Labor Day, can help.

Your association's Education Department and its partners, Agents & Brokers Education Network or ABEN, will present more than 100 webinars and continuing education classes around the state of New York before the end of the year. And, more will be added throughout the next few months. In addition to courses to qualify for an errors and omissions insurance discount and earn AAI, ACSR, NYAIP, NFIP certification or designation, the Web CE programs "Employee Theft Insurance," "Flirting with Disaster: Run a Plan or Plan to Run" and "The Fuss Over Fracking - Insurance Issues Associated With Fracking" will also be presented this fall.

'Show Me the Money' on Auto Telematics
Call it usage-based or simply telematics. This tracking technology now being used to monitor the driving habits of motorists has steadily gained traction in the insurance industry. Sam J. Friedman of the Deloitte Center for Financial Services offers an explanation in his column posted on the PropertyCasualty360 website. In the column, Friedman cites the revenue and expense benefits auto insurance carriers could reap from telematics. Read his column, but be forewarned. Friedman doesn't include a role for agents and brokers, such as selling their clients UBI-based products or providing "carrier agnostic" telematics devices, similar to unlocked smartphones that can be used with multiple carriers.
